trying to set up iotawatt to emoncms wants a API key and i have no idea how to find it

Are you using Emoncms.org or a private instance of Emoncms on your own host?

I set up account with Emoncms.org and trying to follow the set up on iotawatt

Login to your account on emoncms.org, go to “My Account”. Your Write APIkey will be shown there with a button to copy it. Paste that into your IoTaWatt setup.

Getting somewhere with it numbers seem to be off.
