New iotawatt - intermittent GRR and not finding the sdcard - resolved

Hi, got my first IotaWatt yesterday - I’m loving the concept but I think I might have a slightly defective unit.

On first setup, I got it connected and booted up fine, wifi configured and connected but on the next restart I got a GRR. Took the sdcard out, it reads fine in my laptop, plugged everything back in - still GRR and I could see it connect not as “IotaWatt” but as “ESP-C1D998” but same IP as previously.

Took the card out again to check the logs a little more carefully, but couldn’t see anything obvious. I decided to try once more making sure the card was seated fully (I have no reason to think it wasn’t earlier but I know this time I did).

This time it booted up to green, and I finished the config (set TZ and update more to NONE for now) and I could get started connecting CTs - after a couple fun hours of this and playing around with the app/graphs/outputs, I went to bed.

This morning, the unit was still showing readings on the status page, but I could no longer move around to other scenes, graphs and file readers etc - everything reported as url not found. I did a restart from the web interface and it came back GRR again and I have not been able to get it running.

Please let me know if there is anything I can provide from the logs that would help you.

Actually let me paste in the bottom of the log for now:

It happens. I’ll send another unit and a return label with your new order.

i have a few more CTs on order from you since yesterday evening - could combine shipments. do you need order #?

I just sent it out with 124125, is that correct?

It is, thank you. I responded separately as well.

Follow-up question: I have read elsewhere not to leave the CTs energized and disconnected, so I have everything connected up and powered up as I don’t want to remove all the CTs. Do I have to leave the power on the unit or are they properly terminated with the power off as well?

They are fine when powered off. Also, the AcuCTs have protection diodes to prevent damage when unplugged, but best to leave plugged in.

new unit is running flawlessly since it arrived, return shipped out earlier today (monday). thanks for the quick turnaround!
