Enphase Solar Tracking with PVOutput

New user here having a few issues. Overall setup seems pretty straight forward but I seem to be having some issues in Graph+ and PVOutput.

I have feeds from both IoTaWatt and Enphase being sent to PVOutput. Does the Enphase data override the IoTaWatt data for production? I will share photos showing where the data for production changes later in the day.

Do I need to have 2 separate systems in PVOutput or can I use some of the extra paid inputs to track both IoTaWatt and Enphase numbers on the same system?

The Energy used in PVOutput does not seem to be working. Any ideas why?

The solar seems to never drop below 3 watts even when the sun is down even with max 0 in my uploader.

Solar on bottom left breaker. One CT with Doubled checked.

Weird negative spike in the data from IotaWatt in PVOutput. This does not seem to show up on Graph+ or the Enphase data. https://enlighten.enphaseenergy.com/public/systems/fNDA1422112 The spike shown in the picture is now gone from PVO but there are 2 more at later times that I assume with also disappear once the Enphase data updates.

10:45 from IoTaWatt was showing around 12.3 kWh as Enphase was showing 11.3 as the next picture will show. I would expect the IoTaWatt CT to read lower than the Enphase as this is 200 ft from the Envoy installed at the array. My production readings come from the Enphase Production CT’s in the combiner box not the microinverters.

Not showing negative spike in the data.

This is showing how I think Enphase is sending the data later and updating the production numbers.

Any advice would be appreciated in how to get some of the data cleaned up.

Happy to be part of this niche community either way!

I ran this query to see the data.

http://iotawatt.local/query?select=[time,solar_1]&begin=2022-03-25T12:05&end=2022-03-26T15:30&group=5m&format=csv

My peak power in Enphase is 11,300 or so and IoTaWatt is showing a peak of 11,200 so this seems to be correct although I was expecting to see a bit more loss than 1% with a 200 ft run between CT’s. The wires and breaker do get warm during midday full sun. I ran 3 gauge copper about 100 ft from array to house and then 4 gauge romex from cuttoff to main about another 100 ft.

Is there are log of what is sent to PVOutout that I can query as well?

Updating the same data from both the IoTaWatt and Enphase will not work. You can do generation from one and consumption from the other, but calculated values like import and export will not match either system’s values.

My recommendation is to setup a separate PVoutput for each, run them for awhile and see which seems more reliable and accurate.

Most inverters draw power in standby mode. 3W would be normal for some inverters. To differentiate that from inverter output, check “Allow negative values” for the solar_1 input and the standby load will begin to show as -3 Watts. If you don’t want to see the standby power you can create an output to only show the positive generation:

solar = solar_1 max 0

The query does not match the data in PVoutput, so it’s the Enphase data.

The current in the wires is the same at both ends. Any difference would be from voltage calibration or voltage drop.

You just did.

UPDATE:

I notice that there is a white neutral wire of the same gauge coming in through the same conduit as the two PV wires. That suggests that you have a three-wire system. You may need to put a CT on the black wire as well or run both through a 100A CT in opposite directions.

Looking at your PVoutput setup:

image

You have your timezone set to Australia/Sydney time. Unlike the other uploaders, PVoutput uploads are timestamped with local time. If you are in USA zip 30534, your IoTaWatt should be set to -5 allow DST and your PVoutput should be set to USA Eastern Time.

I updated the timezone for the live view. It does not appear to affect anything.

Enphase gets rid of the neutral and ground in the array. Their Q cable simple has black and red. These are combined in a box and the neutral and ground start there.

I ran this:

http://iotawatt.local/query?select=[time,solar_1.Wh.d2]&begin=2022-03-26T07:36&end=2022-03-26T20:30&group=2m&format=csv

This matches up almost exact to what enphase is showing for the day so far. I will double check it once the sun goes down to see the exact difference and post it in a reply. Should be about 90 kWh and one of my best days since 2018.

I am going to turn off the enphase push tonight and see how it looks with just the data coming from IoTaWatt tomorrow as the weather should be similar. I did this yesterday and it was behaving strange. I will post the results of that as well. Can the docs be updated to mention the fact that one push will override the other if 2 are setup at the same time?

Can I ask what you expected would happen?

I guess I thought I would be able to compare the data from both feeds and it seems that is possible if you have the paid mode of PVOutput and use the extra defined parameters.

For yesterdays(3/26/2022) data and having the push from IotaWatt and the pull from Enphase it appears that Enphase eventually replaces the data for the production but also causes the energy used column to not add all energy.

I compared the IotaWatt production data to the Enphase data and production was 1 kWh less than the Enphase but prob more accurate as it is measured at the main panel anyway. I also compared the IoTaWatt consumption/production data to my utility data and it agrees perfectly. IoTaWatt was 83kWh/84kWh compared to my utility daily usage of -1kWh.

I turned off the Enphase data pull at midnight and the energy used column appears to be adding cumulatively now. I don’t really see the need for the Enphase data anymore.

It looks like Enphase may be killing the access to the API for non-business users anyway:

I replied to this post about my IotaWatt experience as well, sharing the link for this discussion.
