Green Red/Red Green Leds

Hi Bob, Australian user, purchased a unit from Smartguys in Oz and it’s been working flawlessly since January this year on my three phase home. Using HA and PVOutput.org.

Two days ago it stopped, I’ve got the green red red green sequence of lights. I’ve removed the sd card and refitted it, same fault occurs straight away.

Has the card failed? Being in oz shall i just get another? Anyway to save the configuration? I’ve read all the post on the failures so I’ll give the new card a go and report back.

Cheers Damon.

It’s not clear that the card is bad, but pretty good chance given the timing and circumstance. This is what the several hundred bad cards that were shipped look like:

A copy of your last good config should be stored in the ESP8266 SPIFFS file system. Instructions for recovering are included in this post:

Thanks Bob, i checked last night and that’s my card. I’ll have a go tonight. Thanks for the response and hard work, these are a terrific unit!

Ok the old card can’t be read. Purchased a new Sandisk 32, wrote all the Git files and popped it in. I’ve got the dull green led but i can’t connet to local or the ip address which i can see on my Asus router list using a mix of Apple and Android devices. Interesting i get a dull red led after every seconds and can also see the iotawatt connection time reset to zero after 30 seconds in the router list.

Any ideas?

Couple of things.

You only needed an 8GB card. I get nervous when folks get large cards that may be formatted eXFAT or NTFS. Your computer will happily write the files to it but IoTaWatt can only work with FAT32. May not be the problem but I would recommend formatting FAT32 using the SD association formatter.

When you remove the card, check to see if it has a message log at /iotawatt/iotamsgs.txt. If so, post it for me to see.

I also have HA turned on, could this be upsetting things when HA is trying to connect before it’s ready?

Yep. Just looking at the trace now. The unit is getting an exception while handling a query. That would be HA. It doesn’t look as if a new history log was created. Did you copy that from the old card? I would suggest deleting both iotalog.log and histlog.log from /iotawatt directory. Restart and let it run for an hour or so before turning HA loose on it.

Sorry Bob I rushed the log copy for this thread before I went to work, I thought I was copying the latest but realised I copied the first few from yesterday when i first plugged it in. I could not retrieve anything from the old card and i can’t connect to the UI yet to restore config.txt

This is the 5v power supply i’m using…

Raspberry Pi 3 Switchmode Power Supply 5.1V 2.5A with USB Micro-B | Jaycar Electronics

Nevertheless, try running it for awhile with the HA integration stopped.

I turned off HA and refitted the card. I didn’t delete the logs as this was fresh files from the Git. It’s no longer disconnecting, constant dull green light and the up-time is now stable in the router device manager. Unfortunately I still can’t connect to the UI, using Apple/Android and Windows computers all on the same network.

All I get is Not Found : GRT,URI:/

I didn’t have static IP before the card failed but it has rejoined the router with the same IP. Anything else I should try? Anyway to clear out the WIFI settings when you can’t get into the IU?

Did you reformat the card using the SDcard reformatter?

Reformatted the card using the correct method on my old mac, copied all the Git files and bang! I can connect to both local. And IP on all devices, mac, apple and multiple new Androids.

Great work Bob, like i said before, excellent product.
