Strange Time Issues

I am getting this in the log:

This is strange as the numbers are consistent (3540 seconds is 59 minutes; 32340 is 8 hours and 59 minutes; 39540 is 8 hours and 59 minutes; 75540 is 20 hours and 59 minutes). This is a new DS3231 RTC. The RTC obviously is identified by the firmware:

7/12/22 00:30:31z ESP8266 ID: 750129, RTC M41T81 (68)

Any ideas? could it be a malfunctioning RTC (more reasonable - what have I done wrong?)

DS3231 is not supported. The IoTaWatt can identify the RTC used to the extent that it is either a PCF8523 or M41T81.
