V6 Female Barrel Jack 9VAC Physical Dimensions

Previously I’ve used 9VAC VTs with 5.5mm “off the shelf” barrel jacks for IotaWatt without any connection issues.

With my current batch of V6 (W14 v6.4) units, it sometimes doesn’t fit! About 50% of my 20 units fit, in no particular order and with no other differences I can see.

I tried many different male jacks and measured them as 5.5mm outer / 2.0 inner.

It appears the female IotaWatt’s pin is larger in V6 on some units. See photos attached - I reckon I can visually pick the bigger pin. Top one in photo doesn’t fit. Bottom one does.

I opened it up but don’t see any model number on the jacks.

The company that made these jacks has changed and during the transition, the 2mm center version was not available. The 2.5mm version was available and the AC adapters currently sold with the 120V kits have that connector. Some of the units in that manufacturing run had the remaining 2mm, but most have the 2.5mm.

The 2.5mm is also not compatible with the JW-95001-NA AC adapter that I sold for years. 2.5mm x 5.5mm plugs should be readily available for anyone with a 2mm or 2.1mm plug. If anyone finds an adapter, please post a link.

Again, this is not a problem for the US 120V kits that will be available again soon.

Thanks for that. Is the 2.5mm inner diameter going to be used from now on?

Those adapters should do the trick. Will use the 2mm when available. I think the problem was temporary due to transfer from CUI to Sky. BTW/ the 2.5 plug works fine into the 2mm jack.

Quick search yielded a more economical adapter on AliExpress:
