For those considering a DIY build, the attached (below) may be useful. Figuring out which parts and footprints work with the PCB took some time and effort, so sharing what I came up with to save time and avoid misordering for those who come later. Apologies if this info is already out there and I just didn’t find it.
Big shout out to the designer as the build came up first time with no rework at all. Overall, easier project than I thought it would be. Had JLCPCB produce the board which came back simply beautiful (gerber files supplied by the project checked out 100% by their automated tool) . Board is so clean that assembly was easy using heatgun with the surface mount parts.
I thought I had a problem requiring a change to firmware but turned out to be pilot error. Nonetheless, I will share in a separate note a minor change needed to build the firmware in vs-code/platformio
