Do CT clamps work on shielded cables?

Hi all,

I have the feeling that CT clamps don’t work on shielded cables (photo attached) - am I correct?

Thanks!

This is related to my other question about ordering CT clamps

Don’t know. If the shield is non-ferrous it may work.

It’s pretty unusual to have a shielded AC power cable. Do you understand that the CT must be around only one of the two conductors in a circuit?

nope, I didn’t realise that till you mentioned it – so for example I’ll need the live wire to be exposed and clip only that. Just out of curiosity, I have CT clamps on twin & earth cables (photo of t&e cable attached) and they seem to work just fine?

thanks

That won’t work. If it does, you have a serious fault in your wiring.
