Ending production

Sadly, the current business climate in America has become so unpredictable for small businesses that I’ve decided to stop making IoTaWatt units. My suppliers have put me on notice that they reserve the right to increase the cost of goods even after I’ve ordered. I really can’t blame them.

It is somewhat ironic that probably the only energy monitor made in the USA is driven out of business by a policy purported to bring manufacturing back to America. I’ve been looking into transferring production to a third party outside the USA. I expect that if it works out, new units may be available later this year.

This has always been a cottage industry for me at best anyway. I have never advertised or made claims about what it can do to save money, yet sold thousands of IoTaWatt to enthusiastic customers with only a handful of returns over the years. I intend maintain this forum and remain a regular contributor.

At this point in time – April 15 – I have about 20 kits remaining. When they are gone, that will be it. Sincere thanks to all of you for your encouragement and enthusiasm over the years.

Awww man this is the second time I get my heart broken by the news!

I’m sad to see this go as I love my units due to the open source nature of them. As a matter of fact I just bought one more!

I just want to say thanks so much for the amazing product and support over the years!

I look forward to the next chapter (ESP32 eh eh ?) !

@overeasy - sad news indeed, but not unexpected. Hope the satisfaction of engineering and development for your excellent device and software has you looking back at the effort as a ‘good thing’. As a silicon greybeard, I admire people who can create awesome things - the IoTaWatt ‘system’ is in the same class to me as the DEC PDP 8, the DEC VAX, and the Squeezebox Radio/Boom/Transporter (to name a very few that are near and dear to me). Thank you so much for sharing the blessings of your talents.
